Mark Downs enters his 5th season as Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams at Miami University
Hamilton. He led the Men’s team to the ORCC title during the 2011 and 2012 season and also guided the Women’s squad to a
2nd place finish in 2011 and a 3rd place finish in 2012.
Coach Downs has been involved in tennis for the past 29 years in Hamilton, Ohio. He first served as an assistant coach to the legendary Moe Flaig from 1985-1999. He then served as the Men’s Tennis
coach at Hamilton High School from 2000-2009. He also coached the Women’s Tennis team at Big Blue in 2004.
In addition to coaching, Mark was a Mathematics teacher for 32 years. After
starting his career at Madison Central High School in Richmond, Kentucky in 1982, Mark went on to teach at Hamilton High School for 29 years. Most recently, he taught at Harrison High School in Harrison, Ohio. Coach Downs also worked as an Adjunct Mathematics Instructor at Miami Univeristy Hamilton, a position he held from 2008 to 2010.
Mark graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He later
attended Miami University and graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics in 1990.
Mark has been married to Kathy, also a Miami Alum, for 32 years. they have three children; Jessica 27, John 26, and Sam 24 and one grandchild, Ben 5.
Michael Neri is in his second year as Assistant Coach of the Men's and Women's Tennis teams at Miami Hamilton.
Coach Neri has spent the last thirteen years coaching tennis within the Hamilton City School District. Before becoming the varsity tennis coach, he worked under Mark Downs for a number of years as his assistant at the Big Blue.
When not on the courts, Coach Neri is a teacher at Hamilton High School. He is in his fifthteenth year of teaching there. Currently, he facilitates the Teacher Academy Program within the Career Technical Educational Center at Hamilton High School. Before that, he taught English for the high school.
Michael graduated from Miami University in 2000 with a degree in Communications Education. He also received his Masters from Miami in Educational Leadership. He currently resides in Springfield Township with his wife of three years, Karin.
