photo of Sharon B. KrafftAbout the Collection
The Sharon B. Krafft Memorial Collection was created at Rentschler Library in 2010 to honor the memory of a beloved member of the Miami Hamilton campus community. Sharon was an instructor at the Hamilton campus for many years and also served as the Director of Learning Assistance. Dr. John M. Krafft, Sharon’s husband and an English professor at MUH, generously donated books and funds to establish the collection. The Krafft Collection is focused on 18th and 19th century British fiction, since Sharon had great enthusiasm for the “Big British Novel.” It includes works by more than 45 authors of the time period. The major authors are well represented with books by Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Robert Louis Stevenson, the Bronte sisters, and Thomas Hardy, to name only a few. In addition, there is a secondary focus on books by lesser known female authors of the time, such as Ann Radcliffe, Elizabeth Gaskell, Sarah Grand, Charlotte Lennox, Fanny Burney, Eliza Haywood, and Olive Schreiner. The hope is to bring their works to the forefront and make them more accessible to contemporary readers.
